Workers at Caliber: Beta Academy are unionizing with Industrial Workers of the World. We would love you to come celebrate our union and build support for the workers, families, and students who make our school wonderful. Please come out safely and bring your friends to show your support!
Why did the Caliber: Beta Academy workers unionize?
- A voice for teachers, support staff, students, and families to ensure everyone gets a say on important questions like curriculum, class size, prep time, racial justice, and safety
- A sustainable work environment to ensure teachers and staff retention
- A clear and equitable process for hiring, firing, and promotion, free from discrimination
- A commitment of acting together for the good of our community
Our working conditions are our students’ learning conditions
- We are excited to make history at Caliber: Beta Academy, we are the FIRST Public Charter School in Richmond, CA to form a union and secure protections that are typical in public school environments
- Right now, we want Caliber Administration to make the commitment not to fight our workers’ union
- That means ensuring an environment free from retaliation, intimidation, or preferential treatment when workers speak up and act together
